Week 36 - Garage Doors, y’all
At Sugarfield, we've recently made substantial progress across several key areas of our construction project. Here's a rundown of the latest developments:
IKEA and Brisket: Elizabeth and I have been doing tons of IKEA dates collecting information and trying to make decisions on cabinetry and figuring out what layouts, etc, that we like. Huge kudos to the Rize restaurant we ate at; incredible menu and delicious food. A brisket was pulled out of the freezer and smoked. Much of the 18 pounds of 12-hours of smoked goodness was shared with neighbors and family.
Roofing and Gutters: The trim on our roof is nearly complete, with only the area around the polycarbonate sections pending. We installed new gutters, which are not just functional but strikingly beautiful. These half-circular, galvanized gutters are designed to handle more water than the typical American box-style, and they're equipped with superior fasteners that are a significant upgrade from standard brackets. For now, we have temporary downspouts in place until we can install the cistern.
Electrical Connections: This week, our electrical provider REMC made a quick visit to hook up the power. Although I missed the crew during their brief stop, I was thrilled to find the power successfully turned on upon reaching the site. I even recorded a video of myself installing our first breaker. While I didn't get the power fully operational during that attempt, the process was incredibly empowering.
Insulation Completion: We've finished installing the insulation, which included a surprise inspection we hadn't anticipated. Thankfully, we passed without any issues. At our request, the contractors revisited the insulation above the laundry area, opting for blown-in insulation to better suit our needs.
GARAGE DOORS!!!!! The installation of our garage doors marked a significant milestone — we are now officially dried in. This update came just in time to prevent more birds from accidentally getting trapped inside the structure. It's a relief to have all external openings securely covered.
Temporary Structures: Adding to the excitement and anticipation, Manuel and his wife removed the temporary flooring and installed a makeshift bridge. This temporary solution gives us much more of a preview of what the stunning structural glass floor will look like. You can almost imagine the minimal railings, enhancing the view of the fields beyond. In a captivating visual, Elizabeth appears almost to be floating in the air above the stairway.
