Week 1-Construction Kickoff

This is the week! I hope it is because if we wait any longer, I’m not sure we can fit many more flags into our building site.

We met with our architect and our construction manager on-site two days before digging began. Our first order of business was to celebrate how far we have come by eating cake. Construction high combined with a sugar high makes for a great meeting. We mapped out the general shape of our future driveway. We wanted to follow the land's natural rise and fall and have some gentle turns. The gradual curves also will provide privacy and make for a gradual reveal of the house.

We also talked about the general schedule for the project. This is something that we are going to hold loosely. Many factors cannot be controlled that can and will impact the schedule. Weather, materials, scheduling conflicts, and global pandemics to name a few. The goal is to complete the house's exterior and “dried in” by December. Having the outside completed before the worst winter months start will give crews a more pleasant place to work rather than being outside through the winter. This means we are aiming to be in our house by May of 2024!

This has not been the quickest process, and that is okay! Good things come to those who wait. We want to be in this house forever so this time is just a tiny part of the rest of our lives. And to be honest, this has been really fun to watch a dream start to become a reality. Follow along for updates as we continue to build!
