Weeks 9-14! Exciting Happenings

The last few weeks have been met with a few delays and setbacks but it is all part of the process and framing has started!

Since our last update

  • Basement floors and garage floor have been poured.

  • REMC has trenched power to the house and placed the box thingy, transformer?

  • 16-foot t-studs took a while to be made and delivered

  • An old field tile drain was cut, and it was a challenging repair

  • We rescued a black kitten off the side of State Road 39, and named him 39

  • The soybeans around Sugarfield have been harvested

  • Lumber was delivered

  • Elana rescued a possum from our basement

  • We rescued another kitten to keep 39 company and named her Weetabix

  • Plans have been updated with lots of exciting details

  • More lumber was delivered

Framing is transformative! It has been incredibly exciting the last week to watch the framing begin. We have gone from the outline of the house when the foundation and basement was built to walls and actual defined spaces. It seems surreal to go from spaces we are familiar with from concept to paper to actual forms that we can touch and experience.

The basement feels fantastic. The ceilings are so high for a basement, making it feel spacious and open. There is no sense of being underground. It is also fun to experience the rooms walk through them and see how well they flow together.

Over the weekend, our amazing framing crew worked on Saturday to finish the sub-flooring for the main level. As this week starts, we have pushed the fast-forward button, and progress is exponential!
