Weeks 30-32 Friends, Roofing, Electrical, and HVAC!

We started week 30 with meeting up with a couple Liz and I have been connected to since college years (early 2000s). Heather and Adam invited us up to see Richmond, Indiana. What a beautiful city and a wonderful time was had by all. Of particular note is the fact that we visited the highest natural point in Indiana. Surprisingly, it was extremely windy.

Quite a busy few weeks! The front side of the roofing was roughed in this week and it gave us our second reason to fly the drone in 2024. I’m not a drone, but I’m sure it felt good to stretch it’s propellers a little.

Also, our two cats have definitely bonded. <3

And we’ve got power all buttoned up, ready for insulation and drywall! The outside hookups here are designed with two purposes in mind: 1) We will likely have a solar installation in the future, so we’re ready for that. 2) We have a future EV hookup and 50-amp RV hookup installed here. 3) Finally, we will, someday, add a polebarn + guest suite and we have a third big cut off here for an uninstalled panel that will power the polebarn.

Finally, in a huge step forward, our furnace was stealth installed! Soon, the geothermal loop will be run out to the furnace and hooked up. We have a lot of plans that have had to come together for this particular furnace to have been selected. One of the many features we’re going to take advantage of is it’s ability to pre-warm our standard water heater. In many cases, especially in the summer, it’s possible our electric usage to keep the hot water hot will be near zero as the geothermal unit will use our water heater to pre-cool the loop before dumping the heat back into the ground.
