Friends and Family

THE MOVE
This is the third post in a series where we describe our move back to Indiana. If you want to read the first post in the series, read Leaving Indiana.

We never really drew up a plan, but we did know that at some point, we either had to convince both of our families to move to South Carolina or we would have to move back closer to home.

If we’re going to be closer to family, we have to sell this place. If we build a home on family land, we must move away from our friends. The need to move back to Indiana was a constant refrain every time we talked about building a family: we need our family closer so that they can help us, and we can help them.

Always in response, we would be preparing our house for friends that were coming over for various reasons. I often wondered aloud, “How could we ever leave all of this?” Elizabeth would usually nod her head. You see, to move back to Indiana would be physically and emotionally very hard. Living far from family was also physically and emotionally exhausting.

If we were going to grow our family, we wanted it to be after we returned to Indiana. So, for years, we would hem and haw, and nothing much would come of our plans.
